I think your teacher is on the right track: having a goal, something to focus on, will help motivation and dedication. Well, while visiting him last year, I sat in his living room and flipped through that very book. He said it's a great resource and I'd meant to track it down and find a copy for myself! I'm planning to take the JLPT next year. If I really work my tail off and feel confident, maybe I'll try for the 3rd level. If not, I'll sit for the 4th and hope and pray I pass it. Good luck!
