The Mixxer language exchange- Japanese to English

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

Practice with native speakers is probably the one most important component of language learning… but it’s really hard when you aren’t in the target country. That’s why a tool like the Mixxer is so great. To use it, you add The Mixxer’s contact information into your Skype acccount. Then other Mixxer subscribers can approach you […]

I’ve Merged!

Wednesday, October 5th, 2005

i went over to japanesejapanese.com for real!
i merged my WP blog into mike’s, without any hairy database weirdness.
i simply used the handy WPexport plugin, making sure to save the exported text into a UT8-encoded text file.
then followed the import instructions.
bye bye!

pronunciation tool

Friday, September 30th, 2005

in my language exchange with david yesterday, he gave me a compliment on my pronunciation joking that he thought it was a native speaker. i said ‘thank you’; but of course if i was a real japanese speaker i’d have demurred and said it was awful. surely, he was just being nice, but it was […]

Japanese podcast

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

There’s loads and loads more Japanese language podcasts since I first looked for some in June. I tried listening to the myriad gaijin “whoah look at how wacky Japan is” stuff, but they’re in English anyway.
I do listen to the Nippon voice blog, but mostly it’s over my head. I am starting to pick […]

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2005

i listened to dr. blair’s “japanese in no time” during my five hour flight from san francisco to boston. i made it through one run of the first CD and half of the second. i realized it was getting ahead of me, so i went back and started reviewing CD 1.

Podcasts for learning japanese

Friday, July 1st, 2005

I’ve found two audio good sources (so far) from various Japanese-related audio feeds.
Guzen Radio tells about living in Japan, so that’s interesting from a cultural point of view, and in English. It used to be called 3 Monkeys Radio, and features english speakers talking about living in Japan. He does use a little Japanese. […]

Language Learning blogs/journals

Wednesday, June 29th, 2005

As Joshua and I set this space up, I’d like to look more at others who are using blogs or online journals for their own language learning. Especially at this point- different tools, tips for setting up the site. I’m thinking along the lines of an Audio RSS feed.
Here’s one example of a online […]
