Ah! Wasureta!

Friday, January 26th, 2007

すみません! I forgot to come back here and mention that when I started taking classes with my one-on-one tutor in Japan, I didn’t really need to use my blog as much. It’s here as a resource in case anyone had linked to it or asked questions about the things posted here…
Looking back, having the […]

going 4 it

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

ok, cheesy title… but i decided after talking to my teacher last week that i’m going to aim for the JLPT level 4 (read:easiest!) test this december.
and i got myself the very cool Basic Kanji Book Vol 1. she said that would be more than enough kanji for level 4.
anyway, if i decide […]

learning should be fun

Thursday, January 19th, 2006

the other evening, i was struggling with my homework. i haven`t been in school in so long, i`m not used to it. i`m not used to have to actually practice practice practice. it’s not that it’s hard, practice is agonizingly boring. it’s painfully boring, it’s phenomenologically, massively, excruciatingly boring. boring-boring-boring. ok. i`ll stop now!
i’m […]

my sensei!

Saturday, January 7th, 2006

i have found a teacher!
this is very exciting, since i have been self-teaching for a while, and not sure if all the pieces are fitting in, and not sure what i know and don’t know. i got a trial lesson yesterday, for about 1.5 hours.
i think she was pretty much establishing what i knew and […]

common questions you’ll get asked in japan

Saturday, November 19th, 2005

Exactly ONE MONTH before I arrive in Japan! get very excited/anxious.
I’ve been asking friends of mine who have been in japan since the summer- what are the most common questions people will ask you in japan? i’ve started listing them below. these are both from adults and kids but i’m not sure which.
Some […]

I’ve Merged!

Wednesday, October 5th, 2005

i went over to japanesejapanese.com for real!
i merged my WP blog into mike’s, without any hairy database weirdness.
i simply used the handy WPexport plugin, making sure to save the exported text into a UT8-encoded text file.
then followed the import instructions.
bye bye!

moving soon!

Tuesday, October 4th, 2005

by the way, i’ll be moving over to http://japanesejapanese.com/ to study with mike smeen from kenkyuukai and david from earthcallingdavid. well, it’s just in draft stage at the moment.
the basic idea is to have a learning japanese group blog…. the more the merrier!
others can sign up, and mike will give you a wordpress username […]

word translation v understanding

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

*phew* i have a LONG way to go to understanding japanese. fugeddaboudit. this is mildly demoralizing.
i was taking a break, looking at some lovely photologs from japan. here: 6strings and bitter girls
thought i might make use of the handy-dandy online translation tool at Jim Breen’s WWWJDIC Server…
it does faithfully translate each word, sentence […]

shifting goalposts

Tuesday, August 9th, 2005

(update: I just noticed that over at Mike Smeen at Learn Japanese was having the same thoughts about goals.)
when i began, my goal was to dabble in learning japanese, to aim low, and get some “survival japanese”. as i wrote in as i wrote in my profile, i was thinking of effective phrases i could […]

shopping spree

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005

until now i had not spent any money on this little hobby. i wanted to spend ages reading reviews of products and making a plan for self-learning. i’d like to see if i can get some hours with a japanese tutor in the autumn, after i get some more self-learning done. i went to […]
